Passage to Eternity

Have you ever felt the desire to connect more deeply with the earth? To find that place of oneness within you that is simultaneously linked to the whole of nature?

I began my painting Passage to Eternity wishing to capture that feeling, embodying the latent wisdom and inner vision which resides just below the skin. Through the painting process, I strove to connect to the essence of communion we all have with the earth, to capture the wholeness this relationship encompasses, if only we open ourselves to its magical potency and purpose.

Because it feels easier for me to tap into this wisdom through meditation or the pleasure of a sun-filled day, and sometimes it’s difficult to put into paint what I see and feel in my mind and heart, this painting fought with me.

I went through large periods of frustration, exploring the painful shadows of self-doubt that came to the surface as is often the case when you accidentally or intentionally travel underworld realms. The very essence of earth and its inevitable shadow world is about life, death, rebirth and transformation, after all. Exploring my relationship with nature through this painting took me on an inner journey through all these facets.

The unique spiritual states of being that come from facing discomfort rather than turning away from it can be revelatory. Strength and stability can be found and honored, wisdom and power exposed from surprising sources.

This is what Passage to Eternity taught me.  By letting go and opening your inner sight to the primal visionary forces of the underworld, you will find the wisdom within your bloodline, within the whole of nature. By letting yourself feel what comes up, you wholly embrace Self and your place in the universe.
